The Cosy Room

Every pet starts here: a warm, simple room with a soft rug, a food bowl and a ball to play with.

In every room your pet potters about between naps and meals: it sniffs its bowl, nudges its ball and looks out of the window. Tap the window, a light, the ball, the bed or a picture to see what happens. It is just for fun and changes nothing about your pet's needs.

Rooms drawn by kids

Two of the rooms in Maatjie Arena began as crayon drawings by children. The game's artist re-made each drawing as clean, round, friendly art in the same style as the rest of the game, keeping everything the child drew exactly where they drew it: the bed, the window, the pictures on the wall and all the little details.

The Starry Bedroom

The very first room a child designed for the game. It has a bed with a star blanket, a bean bag covered in planets, a reading lamp, a window with curtains and pictures of the moon and the sun on the wall.

The Rocky Cave

The second drawing became a cave: a stone bed with leaves on it, a stone table with an inkpot and a feather, a window that is a round hole in the rock, a torch above the bed, a broom, and a little spider hanging from the roof.

Five more rooms to explore

Five more rooms, drawn by the game's artist, are free for everyone. Each has its own bed for your pet to sleep in, and things to tap: a window to look out of, lights to switch, a ball to roll and a surprise or two.

The Treehouse

A cosy room high up in a tree, with a round knot-hole window onto leafy branches, a hammock with a leaf blanket, a rope-ladder hatch in the floor, a lantern on a hook, a jar of fireflies, a bird box and a bowl of acorns.

The Beach Hut

A pastel wooden hut by the sea, with a round porthole onto the sunny water, a bed made from a little boat with a sail-cloth blanket, shell string lights, a surfboard, a life ring, a bucket and a starfish picture.

The Jungle Camp

A camp in the jungle, with tent canvas walls, a window flap where a toucan peeks in between big leaves, a bedroll with a leaf-pattern blanket, a camp lantern, a crate table, hanging vines and a compass picture.

The Snow Cabin

A log cabin in the snow, with a frosty window, a bunk bed with a chunky knitted blanket, a round glowing stove with a mug of hot cocoa on top, snow boots and a wreath.

The Coral Reef

A room under the sea, with soft light rays in the water, a round bubble window with fish swimming past, a clam-shell bed with a seaweed blanket, round corals, a treasure-chest table, a glowing jellyfish lamp and a string of bubble lights.

The Robo Lab

A high-tech room with glowing screens, a robot arm, a helper drone, a neon floor and a charging pod for a bed. The Robo Lab is part of the optional Supporter Pack. Every other room is free for everyone.

Day and night

Rooms follow the time of day where you are. The sky in the window turns pink at dawn and dusk, and at night the room goes dark and cosy, with the lamps glowing. When your pet naps, the lights dim so it can sleep.

Just for looks

A room changes how your pet's home looks and nothing else. It does not change how your pet feels, how it grows or how it battles, so you can pick the room you like best.
